Ideas for: Fabrics, methods, colors, personal touches..

  • Fleece, knitted, crocheted, quilted, sewed, or creatively decorated purchased blankets.
  • Very soft, snuggly, touchable fabrics, like flannel, fleece, robe velour, soft cotton
  • Soft lace or ribbon is good on the body or sleeves of a gown or shirt but not on the neckline
  • Personal touches, such as soft ribbon woven into the blanket, special stitches, soft lace or tiny bows, flowers, etc.
  • Tiny prints (flowers, small animals, etc.) to dress very tiny babies (7 to 10 inches long)
  • Pastel blue, pink, green, white, or varigated baby colors
  • White with soft colored ribbons for memorial gowns and wraps (for 15 - 17 week babies).

Key points to remember when constructing clothing:

  • Outfit should be very roomy for dressing and undressing the baby
  • Gowns should open all the down the back with velcrow
  • Kimono type and angel wing sleeves are good.
  • Neckline can be hemmed with soft binding not lace
  • Necklines can be gathered with a drawstring ribbon
  • Bonnets should be easy to put on and removed. The kind that gather in the front and in the back making the bonnet completely adjustable are perfect.
